Macrophotography needs a lot of light.  If you are using extension tubes, you will lose light and Depth of Field.  The extension tubes work well in good light conditions, but when it is a bit dull, you need some help.

One of the best options is a ring flash.  There are many to choose from, with lots of bells and whistles. If you want Through-The-Lens metering (TTL), you will pay upwards of 80 Euros.

We plumped for the non-TTL ring flash from Neewer.  It doesn’t really matter that there is no TTL metering.  You simply take a picture, if it’s not bright enough, turn the light up and try again!
